Your tour of Lithuania exceded my expectations by far. It was a comprehensive look at Lithuanian culture and history, and made me very proud of my Lithuanian ancestry. Petras was a superb guide, well-prepared to introduce us to Lithuania´s history and traditions.

A scientist living in Panama asked me yesterday if I could give a talk about my trip!

I did manage to put names on the two commonest gymnosperms ("pine trees") that we saw with some clues I found in the national park where we kayaked.

Maybe you would like to pass this information on. Ecological tourism is very popular in America, and you will probably be experiencing it in Lithuania too.

(1) The long-needled pine with an irregular shape and small pinecones is Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), called Scotch pine in the U.S where it is frequently sold as a long-needled Christmas tree. If the mature tree has thin, flaky orange bark on the upper part of the trunk, it is Scots pine. You will see them everywhere!

In Finland, researchers have found that the roots of neighboring Scots pine graft to each other so they can share wáter and nutrient!

(2) The short-needled tree with drooping branchlets and a perfect triangular shape is Norway spruce (Picea abies), very popular for Christmas trees in the U.S.

There is good information on the internet about both of these trees, since they are found over a vast part of Eurpe and Asia.

The eco-system where we were kayaking is probably called "pine-birch forest." Maybe the Institute of Botany could tell you more about this.

Dear Simona,

Now that I have returned home and have time to reflect on our trip to Lithuania, I realize how well planned and personal it was. Thank you for the arrival packets, the Daugirdas Hotel, the Kretinga Museum, and changing the kayak day for better weather. I felt that you were always looking out for our best interests.

Petras was a great driver/guide: courteous, informative, on time, and helped us interpret current Lithuania.

We loved Lithuania! We even have considered coming back for a cultural week in Vilnius to see opera and some of the museums we never got inside. Let us know if you develop such a tour.

Once again, Simona, thank you for your personal attention in making our trip wonderful!

Dear Simona,
This is a belated thank you for the way you and all your colleagues in Visit Lithuania assisted us in organizing a marvellous one month family vacation this past summer, in various vacation cottages in Aukstaitija, Dzukija, and the Trakai district. You catered to all preferences and multiple requests , your recommendations were excellent, the efficiency of your office was remarkable, and your personal friendliness and that of the members of your team were very special.
And the " cherry on the cake" was even being able to supply us at the very last minute, with a 7 seat car under excellent rental conditions and a gps with hotspot properties that enabled us to be wifi connected throughout the trip, whether in the car itself or in spots where there was only sporadic internet accessibility.

I am writing to tell you what a wonderful trip we had visiting Lithuania this past June!!! My father, Albert Kaminsky, enjoyed seeing Lithuania and seeing his parents "roots" area! My niece, Sarah, and I enjoyed our visit as well!! Our itinerary was well thought out and we loved seeing all the areas and sights that we visited. everything was perfect!!! Our guide and translator Gediminas Sukutis was exceptional- he was a wonderful guide and was so good to all of us, especially my dad!!! Thank you for everything and I cannot wait to come back and visit!!!!! You did a great job!!!!

P.S. all the sights and visits were interesting- the guides were great- my favorite spot was NIDA!!!

Dear Vaida,

I cannot thank you enough for your help planning our vacation in Lithuania and Russia. You were incredibly helpful in recommending and booking our hotels, restaurants, rental car, tour guide, airport transfers and airfare. And you even dropped by our hotel to say hello in person, and arranged for us to have a GPS for our rental car. I cannot imagine a better travel agent. Thank you so very much!!

Thank you again!
Warmest wishes,

Dear Simona,

We enjoyed our trip very much. The journey on Tuesday was very comfortable- everything was very efficient in terms of the booking arrangements and collection at the hostel, and the boys had a great time at both the adventure park and aquapark- good value for money. The driver did get a little lost trying to find the road down to the adventure park but we weren’t concerned, we would have got even more lost ourselves without him, and having the minibus rather than having to use public transport was much more convenient.

Thursday was excellent- our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, the tours were very informative and we had a good range of activities that day and enough time at each venue; we particularly enjoyed our soviet prison experience!!

Thanks again for organising everything,

PS we would particularly recommend the Fortuna/Old Town Hostels in Vilnius and also Klaipeda Hostel.

Hi Simona,

We had a fantastic time! You planned it so well - with something beekeeping and something about Lithuania every day. Because Lukas was such a wonderful guide, we even got beekeeping information our first day during our city tour of Vilnius. Having uncles who are beekeepers made him eager and interested and he had read up on beekeeping history of Lithuania as well. We are saying very positive things about our experience to our friends. It was a wonderful time.

Hi Simona,
Some of us are back home – some are still exploring other countries – but all of us are cherishing the experience we had in Lithuania. It was an awesome trip to the homeland of our grandparents. Our guides were all exceptional, especially Virginia. They guided us to beautiful places and taught us so much about the history and culture of your country.
We were also pleased with all of the accommodations that you planned for us along the way.
Our visit with our family at the homestead was something that touched all of us and was a highlight of the trip.
Thank you for helping to make our trip so memorable.

Dear Simona:
I myself was very pleased with the arrangements you had made for us. Our rooms where very nice. You know the only reason I came to Lithuania was to see where my family lived. Our driver was exceptional he took us to where the family was suppose to be from, and I found two first cousins in two different areas. Thus my trip was complete in my mind.
I do believe the girls had a great time and enjoyed all of the site seeing trips and guides you had provided for them. I would like to plan an other trip but my wife only looks at me funny because I'm going 86 years young this October.
Many Thanks,
