A new modern electric double-deck train has been put into operation on December 24,2008 on the routeVilnius – Kaunas. Operational speed of the train 120- 160km/h. It willmake only one stop at Kaišiadorys railway station. Upgraded ER9M electric train will also be operated under the schedule of highspeed trains and will stop only at one railway station. One more newelectric train EJ575 is to be delivered to Lithuania in the nearentfuture. The new electric double – deck trains will run three times aday. The price of return Vilnius- Kaunas ticket is 17.90Lt. The trainhas been produced at ČKD VAGONKA factory, it is environment friendlytransport vehicle,it has 304 seats, 23 of them first class and 281 second class seats. Double deck electric trains operated in theEuropean Union countries meet the passenger requirements, it is anew phenomenon not only in Lithuania butin the whole Baltic region.
