Veliuona mounds – an advanced post of the fights with crusaders, rebuilt after the Zalgiris battle Print E-mail
Veliuona castle was built in 1291, and has been the most important advanced post in the war with the crusaders for 76 years (until 1367). After the fall of Veliuona castle, crusaders have temporarily occupied the region, however Vytautas have rebuilt Veliuona castle and have defended the rights of Lithuania to have this territory after the Zalgiris battle in 1412.
