One of the most beautiful Lithuania mound can be seen in Seredzius, on the road going by the Nemunas River. Its site is almost triangle shape, 50x35 m. size, whereas a 7 meters high mound is mounded on the eastern side. The mount is near the confluence of the Nemunas and Dubysa Rivers, which in the beginning of the 16th century has been associated with the settling place of legendary duke of Lithuania Palemonas. This is the reason why this mound has been named - Palemonas mountain since the 18th century. The true story of this mound is related to Piestve castle, which was mention for the first time in 1293, when the crusaders were attacking Veliuona (Jungeda) and Piestve castles. Piestve was the second castle after the Veliuona which was on the defense line by the lower reaches of the Nemunas River; therefore the attacks of Piestve castle were often combined with the attacks of Veliuona castle. The regiments of crusaders have attacked in 1294, 1298, 1318, 1319, 1322, 1345, 1348, 1357, 1362. Sometimes the crusaders destroyed only the neighborhoods, and sometimes burnt the lower ward. When crusaders have destroyed the New Kaunas castle in 1363, at the same time they have destroyed Piestve castle too. The castle was rebuilt in 1412 together with Veliuona castle. However after the peace contract of Meln (1422) the castle lost its importance and was desolated.
