You will find here picturesque pine forests, hills, the 750 mm narrow gauged railway, the River Sventoji and the Horse Museum. Poet Antanas Baranauskas glorified the surroundings in ?Anyksciai Pinewood?. The whole area is cherished by eminent writers. Two sights that you must see are the Puntukas Stone and the pointed tower of Anyksciai Church. Fine wines and liquors, made in the area, are also worth looking into. Taste them. You won?t be disappointed.
Anyksciai first appeared in written records in 1422. Long ago, the city was the home of the three the most celebrated Lithuanian writers A. Baranauskas, A. Vienuolis and J. Biliunas. A must-see for any visitor to the town is the Puntukas stone which is 6.9 meters long, 5.7 (!) meters high and 6.7 meters wide. The bas-relief on its side commemorates the famous Lithuanian? pilots S. Darius and S. Girenas, the 'conquerors of the Atlantic Ocean', whose plane crashed in Germany in 1933 after successfully completing its historic flight from North America.
