Taking a look at the contour of Lithuania map, in the blink of eye would everyone notice a small ”appendix” at the south-eastern of the country protruding into the territory of Belarus. This is where Dieveniskes village is situated. Due to a unique ethno cultural heritage, the vicinity of Dieveniskes have the status of historical regional park, the only such among the 30 regional parks of Lithuania. Miraculously left as a part of Lithuania territory during the greatest division of Europe by the great powers on the threshold of the 2nd World War, Dieveniskes and its surroundings are still more intriguing to see the ”eye to eye”. The regional park was established in September 24, 1992, in order to save the treasures of natural and cultural heritage in Dieveniskes vicinity. The regional park covers 8 794 hectares. There are 36 villages within the boundary of the regional park. In the territory of the regional park there are the following preserved units: landscape reserves of Gauja, Norviliskiai and Stakai, geomorphologic reserve of Dieveniskes, zoological reserve of Gauja, ethno cultural reserves of Becionys, Poskonys, Rimasiai and Zizmiai, and urbanistic reserve of Dieveniskes.
