Friedrich passageway (also known as Friedrich town) – is a unique place in downtown Klaipėda (Tiltų 26a, by the old market). According to historic documents, during the rule of Friedrich III, on June 19-29, 1692 this place received official permission given by the citizens to be called Friedrich town (Friedrichsstadt); this permission was based on the act passed in 1639. On June 9, 1707 Friedrich town received its own coat of arms. One side features a male figure with a wreath of oak leaves and the other side contains the intertwined initials FR (Friedrich Rex – King Friedrich) placed under a crown.

Here you might find yourself asking a question, “Is this really Lithuania?” Once you enter this cozy courtyard, you will feel as if you are on a small street in a Western European city, ready to sit down and relax, to try freshly prepared fish, to sip wine or coffee. In 2006 the new owner began major re-construction work with a purpose of re-creating the Friedrich town and creating restaurants of a different caliber.

Friedrich Restaurant features Mediterranean dishes and select wines. The olives are brought from Spain especially for our restaurant and later they are marinated here. We also offer world-renowned cured Spanish ham (jamon), locally baked Greek bread and a variety of other appetizers and main dishes.

Gurman‘s Tea and Coffee House invites you to try more than a hundred types of J. Balvočiūtės herbal teas. You can enjoy them not only at the tea and coffee house, but packaged for purchase to take home. In addition, we offer a great variety of coffees, freshly made pies, buns, sweets and salads.

Friedrich Wine Restaurant offers a great selection of wines from all around the world. We pride ourselves in offering exclusive wines, which you might save for a very special occasion. If you are celebrating your birthday or any other special moment in life, our staff will be able to recommend Champagne or bubbling wine according to your taste. Friedrich Pizzeria is a special place for all who love pizzas. We specialize in authentic Italian pizzas and we work hard to offer you the best! In addition to the restaurants, we are planning to build a glass roof over the entire passageway. The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2011.
